Billionaire businessman and industrialist Aliko Dangote has announced employment opportunities for first-class graduates of Lagos State University (LASU), while his foundation has pledged ₦600 million towards the construction of a girls’ hostel at the university.

The announcements were made during LASU’s combined 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremonies, covering the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions. Dangote was represented at the ceremony by his daughter, Hajia Fatima Aliko Dangote, as the businessman himself was also honoured with an Honorary Doctor of Business degree.

Dangote Offers Employment Opportunity to First-Class Graduate



One of the major highlights of the ceremony was the employment opportunity announced for outstanding LASU graduates.

According to LASU, first-class graduates in Engineering and Sciences from the graduating classes will receive preferential consideration for employment with the Dangote Group after completing their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.

The announcement could provide a significant opportunity for graduates who have excelled academically and are looking to begin careers in Nigeria's industrial sector.

₦600 Million Girls’ Hostel Pledge

Beyond employment, the Aliko Dangote Foundation pledged ₦600 million towards the construction of a hostel for female students at Lagos State University.

The project is expected to help improve accommodation and student welfare, particularly for female students who face challenges securing suitable accommodation around the university.

LASU Graduates Over 20,000 Students

The combined convocation covered two academic sessions and saw 20,604 students graduate, with 494 students achieving First Class honours.

For the 2024/2025 session, Lawal Ayilara of the Department of Project Management Technology emerged as the overall best graduating student with a CGPA of 4.96.

For the 2025/2026 session, Oluolamide Adebanjo of the Department of Aerospace Engineering emerged as the best graduating student with a CGPA of 4.97.

Sanwo-Olu Also Rewards LASU’s Best Graduating Students

The ceremony also featured a major reward from Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The governor announced a ₦20 million cash reward each for the best graduating students from the two academic sessions, meaning a combined ₦40 million was awarded to the two students.

A New Opportunity for Young Graduates

Dangote’s announcement has drawn attention because securing employment after university remains a major challenge for many Nigerian graduates.

For LASU students in Engineering and Sciences who graduate with First Class honours, the opportunity could provide a pathway into one of Africa’s largest industrial groups after completing NYSC.

The ₦600 million hostel pledge also adds another dimension to the announcement, potentially improving accommodation facilities for female students at the university.
