August 17, 2026 Nigeria's latest inflation figures have brought a little relief, but many Nigerians may still be wondering: Does this mean food and other things will become cheaper? The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported on Monday that Nigeria's headline inflation rate fell to 15.43% in July 2026, compared with 15.91% in June. This represents a decline of 0.48 percentage points. So, are prices coming down? Not exactly. A fall in the inflation rate does not mean that the prices of food, transport, clothing and other goods have returned to their previous levels. Instead, it means that prices are increasing at a slower pace than they were previously. For example, if a product was ₦10,000 and its price increased to ₦12,000, a lower inflation rate does not automatically take the product back to ₦10,000. Ademola Adeleke Wins Osun Governorship Election, Secures Second Term

  August 17, 2026 Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been declared the winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election, securing another four-year term in office. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Adeleke as the winner after results from all 30 local government areas in the state were collated in Osogbo. Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, received 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 444,815 votes . The difference between the two major candidates was 66,252 votes . Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 17,180 votes .
